Clarence "Wade" McClenny Obituary

Mr. Clarence “Wade” McClenny, 73 of Raleigh, passed away on Wednesday May 26, 2021 at his home.

Born on October 18, 1947, Wade was the son of the late Retha Strickland, and was raised by his late grandparents, Oscar Stephen and Mittie Bass McClenny. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and after serving, he then worked for the Central Prison in Raleigh.  He was a hard-working, dedicated employee, never missing a day’s work and able to retire after twenty-seven years.  He enjoyed traveling to the mountains, and was a diehard Duke Blue Devils fan. He loved his family more than anything, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Cheryl Adams McClenny; one daughter, Ashley Godwin and husband, Derrick of Garner; two sons: Jonathan McClenny of Raleigh and David McClenny of Greensboro; one sister, Mary Pat Jones of El Paso, Texas; and a grandson, Bobby Fields.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held Saturday May 29,  at 1:00 PM in the Clinton Cemetery with Dr. Josh Via officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service on Saturday, from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm at Royal-Hall Funeral Home, 301 McKoy St. Clinton, NC.
