Mr. Charles Franklin King, 84 of 200 Carolina Ave., passed away on March 25th, 2022, at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 29th at 2:00 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brandon King officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
Born in 1938 in Sampson County, Charles was the son of the late Bonnie Franklin and Thelma Mildred Simmons King. Charles began his adulthood as a shipbuilder in Newport News, VA. After a while, he realized that his calling was to help people and enforce the law. His Police career began in 1968 when he moved back to Sampson County where he joined the Clinton Police Force for 13 years. In 1981, he joined the Salemburg Police Department, where he retired as Chief of Police in 2005. He loved serving his community and spent a life full of service in Law Enforcement. Charles’ love for music and dance brought him to being a DJ at WRRZ and WCLN for many years.
Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia G. King of the home; daughter, Terry A. Tew, and husband, Henry of Turkey; son, Scottie F. King, and wife, Lynn of Clinton; seven sisters: Janice Bledsoe, and husband, Jimmy of Hope Mills, NC., Jo Odham of Newport, NC., Brenda Martin, and husband, Tony of Autryville, Debbie Shatterly, and husband, Wayne of Clinton, Sylvia Phillips, and husband, Orin of Hope Mills, Kay Nix, and husband, Joey of Hendersonville, NC., and Sherrie Baldwin, and husband, Eddie of Clinton; three brothers: Larry King, and wife, Karen of Autryville, Ronald King of Clinton, and Glenn King, and wife, Sheila of Clinton; four grandchildren: Henry L. Tew, III, Harley Lea Godwin, and husband, Ryan, Haley M. Tew, and Rev. Brandon King, and wife, Ashley; two great-grandchildren: Henry L. Tew IV., and Paisley Godwin.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM at the funeral home and other times at his home.
