Cebron Fussell Obituary

Cebron Douglas Fussell, born May 18, 1941 in Kinston, North Carolina, passed away June 10, 2021 at his home in Clinton, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Hales Fussell and Frances Hart Fussell. He is survived by his wife, Carol Booth Fussell of Clinton, NC, his son David Hales Fussell of Washington, DC, his sisters, Carolyn F. Medford and husband, Jerry of Kernersville, Nancy F. Perryman of Winston-Salem, several nieces and nephews, granddaughter Hayley Knowles and great-granddaughter Sophia Knowles.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate Cebron’s Life will be held Thursday, July 15th, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Ameen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the chapel.

Cebron graduated from Clinton High School in 1959, followed by Mars Hill College where he graduated in 1961, then to Florida State University to study restaurant and hotel management. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1964-1969. He returned to run and operate the family business, Fussell’s Restaurant and Steakhouse, until it finally closed in 2004 after being in business for forty-five years.

Cebron was a very social person, never meeting a stranger.  He had a big heart and kind soul, and would not hesitate to go out of his way to help someone in need.  He loved the water and spent much of his free time boating around Wrightsville Beach until he later discovered kayaking.  He became involved with the organization, Friends of Sampson County Waterways, eventually serving as their president, and would make frequent paddle trips around the various county waterways and running various events such as wild game cookouts and raffles.

The family is asking to please not send flowers or food to the home, but instead make donations to the coharietribe.org (Great Coharie River Initiative), the North Carolina Coastal Federation, or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.  Cebron will be cremated, and a portion of his ashes will be scattered at Wrightsville Beach and in the Black River at private family gatherings at a later date.

Royal-Hall is honored to serve the Fussell family.
