Cathleen Britt Obituary

Clinton

Mrs. Cathleen Thornton Britt, a cherished mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother of Underwood St., peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at the age of 95, at Sampson Regional Medical Center on Monday, April 1, 2024. She was born in 1928 in Sampson County, NC, the second daughter of the late Audie and Bessie Thornton. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry Everette Britt.

Cathleen leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her two devoted sons, Danny Everette Britt and wife, Vicki, of Clinton, and Roger Neal Britt and wife, Deborah, of Youngsville, NC. She is also survived by her two loving granddaughters, Paige Britt Byrd and husband, Charles, of Wake Forest, NC, and Natalie Britt Zavareei and husband, Hassan, of Rockville, Maryland. Her presence will be deeply missed by her six precious great-grandchildren: Madison Paige Byrd (San Franciso, CA), Chandler Britt Byrd (Boston, MA), Charles Daniel Byrd (Raleigh, NC), Hayden Victoria Zavareei (Champaign, IL), Jordan Britt Zavareei (Denver, CO), and Isabella Marino Zavareei (Richmond, VA). Cathleen is also survived by her sister, Ester Wise of Grantham, NC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her beloved parents, husband of 59 years, and siblings: Katie Hawley White, Audie Edwards, and Carlton “Tot” Thornton.

Cathleen was a devoted member of Mill Creek Christian Church in Four Oaks, NC, and a longstanding member of Grove Park Baptist Church. Her Senior Adult Sunday School Class friends held a special place in her heart.

Following her retirement from Top Mode Sewing In Newton Grove, Cathleen embraced a quiet yet active life. She found joy in tending to her daylilies, gardening, caring for her beloved Eskimo Spitz pups, Mick and Frosty, and nurturing homeless “Kitties” in her neighborhood. Cathleen had a remarkable talent for crocheting, which she generously shared with her great-granddaughters. In 2015 she gifted each of her great-grandchildren an Afghan blanket that she made by hand and chose from her collection for each of them. It warmed her heart to see the smiles on their faces when giving these everlasting heirlooms that will be cherished forever.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 7, at 3:00 PM, at Grove Park Baptist Church, with Reverend Cameron Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery, and at other times at the home of her son, Danny, and Vicki Britt.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Larry Watts, CMC, the staff of Rolling Ridge Assisted Living of Newton Grove, NC, and Sampson Regional Medical Center of Clinton for their compassionate care.

Cathleen Thornton Britt will be remembered as an incredibly proud, loving, honest, and sweet Southern lady whose kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
