Callie Lee (Jones) Bass

Callie Jones Bass, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on April 13, 2024, at the age of 95, surrounded by her loved ones. 

She was born on November 2, 1928, in Sampson County, the only daughter of the late James Everett Jones and Bertie Eldridge Jones.

As a faithful member of Grace Methodist Church, she found much joy in serving in various capacities. The role she enjoyed the most though was being a greeter, as it allowed her to share her love through her famous hugs. She loved spending time gardening, reading, and challenging herself with crossword puzzles and word games. She adored animals and received so much by having them in her life.

She had a deep love for her family and was always a steady presence, no matter the challenges they faced. Her deep Christian faith was evident in the way she lived her life, from the kindness and compassion she showed others to the grace and dignity she possessed while facing any difficulty. 

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Floyd J. Bass, one son, Alan Bass, one daughter, Mary Bass Austin, four brothers - Willie E. Jones, J Cecil Jones, Delmon Jones & Kenneth Jones. One great-grandson, Max Lambert, and one great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn Housman.

She is survived by one daughter, Sheila Smith, granddaughters Lisa Lambert, Kriste Simmons, Courtney Smith, Whitney Lawson, Carrie Dimmick, Amy Austin, and grandsons Jeffrey Smith & Robert Austin. Eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services at Royal Hall Funeral Home in Clinton, NC on April 20th at 1pm. Viewing will be an hour before, at 12. The Reverend Sam Loy officiating. Burial will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
