Betty Gene Best

Mrs. Betty Gene Best, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at her home, with loving family by her side.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023, 2:00 pm at First Methodist Church with the Reverend Matt Seals and Dr. Bill Puckett officiating. Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 pm at Clinton First Methodist Church.  Interment will follow the service in the Clinton City Cemetery.

Betty Gene, a native of Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Fred and Bettie Caison. She was the widow of Francis (Hotdog) Hargrove (1955) and Dr. Glenn E Best Sr. (1975). Betty Gene graduated from Woman’s College (now UNC Greensboro) and worked as a bookkeeper with the Navy Department in Washington, DC and later at First Citizens Bank, Clinton. She also worked as a parttime secretary at Clinton First Methodist Church.   She taught school at Sampson Middle and at Sampson Community College. She was also a longtime member of First Methodist Church of Clinton.

Children: Jean Hargrove Bell (Joe), Ted Best (Pam), Gayanne Best Freedman (Robert), , Charlotte Best, Glenn Best, Jr. (Brenda); and Carolyn Gentry (deceased); Grandchildren:  Dan Freedman, Tracey McCarrick , Charlotte Gentry, Leigh Gentry Atkinson, Rob Gentry, Glenn Best, III, Leann Norris, Jodie Bell, Jonathan Bell, and Rachel Best and fifteen great grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to First Methodist Church of Clinton 208 Sampson St. Clinton, NC 28328, or Gentiva Hospice Community Health Care.

The family would like to thank the Gentiva Hospice Community Health Care; especially Carole, Ashley and Pam.
