Barbara Jean Black Powell, 77, passed away on February 28, 2021 at Cypress Pointe in Wilmington, NC.
Born on April 15, 1943 in Panama City, Florida, Barbara was the daughter of the late Robert Horace Maxwell and Dorothy Lee Brown and adopted daughter to the late Cathleen Inez and Ollie Stockwell. She was a very talented floral designer and worked for many years at the Carolina Pottery in Smithfield.
Barbara is survived by her children: Son, John Forrest Black of Ivanhoe; Daughters: Angela Brown of Clinton, Eve Black Venters (Ronald) of Wallace and Sabrinna D. Hope (Johnny) of Clinton; brother, Gene Raymond Stockwell of Panama City, FL; sister, Dorothy E. Matthews of Fruitland Park, FL; six grandchildren: Nathan Gene Kirby, Jr. (Kristy) of Gastonia, Chandler Barnes Venters of Wallace, Ashley N. Honeycutt (Grant) of Clinton, Joseph A. Williford of Newton Grove, Elizabeth A. Williford (Ben) of Hampstead and Lora K. Squibb (Dustin) of Fayetteville. She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her adopted parents and biological parents, Barbara was preceded in death by six brothers: Robert Horace Maxwell, Jr., Gerald Maxwell Medard, Randall Edward Medard, Juannie Otho Stockwell, Gary Wayne Stockwell and Jack Waymond Stockwell.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date and announced by her children.
