Born on September 30, 1935 in Duplin County, Gene was the son of the late Horace Pierce and Mamie Robinson Pierce and a veteran of the North Carolina National Guard. He was a dedicated member of Immanuel Baptist Church and an active member of the Clinton Lions Club, while his health permitted. Gene managed Dossenbach Furniture Company for twenty-five years. He then ventured on his own, along with his wife, with M & G Signs and Awning Company. He enjoyed hiking the mountains and canoeing the rivers and lakes of North Carolina. He also was an extremely accomplished artist, by using the Bob Ross Techniques, under the teaching of Norma Moore. Gene was a dedicated Christian man his entire life. He loved his family and treasured spending time with them. He was a hardworking, kind man with a heart of gold and was blessed with a great life. More than anything, Gene loved his precious wife, Martha, whom he adored. Even though he will be greatly missed, his legacy of love will live on through his family.

Gene leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-three years, Martha Moore Pierce; his son, Randy Pierce and wife, Cammie of Clinton, daughter, Pamela P. Hodges and husband, Mickey of Dunn; two grandchildren: Jamie Pierce and wife, Amanda, Heather Whitman and husband, Christopher; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Pierce; three step-grandchildren: Michele Simmons, Morgan Matthews, Christy Pope; four step great-grandchildren: Macy Simmons, Brantley Matthews, Payton Matthews and Whitleigh Pope; and also, his special sister-in-law, Mary Brown Mattocks and her daughter, Jessica Ezzell and her fiancee’, Todd Conard.
