Arthur "Art" Hansen, III Obituary

Clinton

Mr. Arthur “Art” Hansen lll, 73 of 4744 N. 421 Hwy. passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro Friday September 17, 2021 with his loving wife and daughter by his side.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cypress Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Garland. There will not be a visitation at the funeral home due to concerns with the Covid virus. The family appreciates your understanding.

Born on January 4, 1948 in New Jersey, Art was the son of the late Edward Harvey and Frances White Hansen. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in Vietnam and was also a mechanic with Herring Brothers of Clinton. He enjoyed working on cars, especially “muscle cars”, with the ’70 Chevelle SS being his favorite.  With the love of cars, he also loved NASCAR, and was a fan of Dale Ernhardt.  Art was a person who always wanted to help others and did so until he became disabled and was then dependent on others. Whatever he did in life, he gave it his best shot.  He was a Lifetime Member of Clinton-Sampson Rescue & EMS, as a volunteer, where he served selflessly for twenty plus years. He was dedicated and proud to be a part of the squad. Often, Art sacrificed time with his family to serve the community, sometimes with his wife, Julia, right by his side.

He also loved the mountains and would generally plan a trip to the mountains around the State Fair.  Just about every time they traveled to the mountains, they went to the Biltmore estate. Recently, Art has suffered with dementia and lived in “another world”, but he still talked about taking a trip to the mountains this year. Knowing it was impossible for him to actually go to the mountains here on earth, his wife still planned it with him.  Now, he has gone to “rest high” on that mountain and in a better place.

Mr. Art is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Julia Smith Hansen; his daughter,  Beth H. Brewington and husband, Shannon of Clinton; brother: Edward Harvey Hansen, Jr. of Raleigh and one grandson, Cayden Brewington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Arthur “Artie” Hansen lV.
