Obituary

Allen Dale “Shorty” Strickland, 74, of Harmony Church Road, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Sampson Regional Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.

Born and raised in Sampson County, Allen was the son of the late Woodrow and Katie Holland Strickland. He was raised on a farm and attended schools in Sampson County. As a kid, he was given the nickname “Shorty” and it stuck with him through life. He always enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, and tinkering with anything he could get his hands on. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Navy on the USS Charleston. He was a Certified Pipefitter, Master Mechanic and Certified Welder Fabricator. He also was a Welding Instructor at Sampson Community College. He has had a passion for music his entire life, playing several instruments, including the fiddle and guitar and loved to sing with family and friends. He was also known for playing with the band “The Family Band”.  Shorty was always known to be a hard worker by his peers, had a loving and giving heart, and had a smile that would light up a room. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 44 years, Arlene Taylor Strickland; daughters: Casandra “Candy” Fadyk and husband, Steve of Minnesota, Anna Eugenia Strickland, Felicia Strickland of Clinton, and Katie Strickland of Roseboro; one son, Jason Strickland and wife, Rita of Minnesota; one brother, Jerry Strickland and wife, Pam of Clinton; four sisters: Carol Burchett and husband, Carey, Mabel Butler and Gayle Strickland, all of Clinton, and Linda Rackley and husband, JW of Topsail Island. He was also blessed with three grandchildren: Evan, Emily and Stacey Mae.

Shorty was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Ann Strickland and three brothers: Albert Strickland, Leroy Strickland and Wadus Strickland.
