My wife and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend Doug. We were neighbors at Wrightsville Beach for may years. Despite challenges of serving on the board of directors, Doug was always positive and cheerful. We used to see him cooking on the BBQ grills and enjoyed lively conversation over cold drinks while the steaks sizzled on the grill. We really enjoyed his company. Best wishes and God bless,
Sincerely, Keith & Louanne

On behalf of the attorneys and staff of the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, I offer our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Judge Parsons. Doug served as Assistant U.S. Attorney here in the 1970s. Over the following decades prior to his appointment to the Superior Court bench, he was a very worthy and collegial adversary. He was also a fine gentleman. The legal profession will miss him. To his family, we are so sorry for your loss.

Doug was a very talented trial attorney, and exceptional Judge, and a close friend. He was very kind and gracious to me as a young attorney in Smithfield, and over the last several years, I have enjoyed seeing him when he rotated through Carteret County. He recently tried a murder case in Carteret for several weeks, and did not allow the situation to become volatile in the courtroom or in our community. He also has been a stalwart supporter of the NC Bar Association and its efforts, including the Transitioning Lawyers Commission. I could never thank him enough for his support of TLC's work over the last 5 years. I will miss him greatly, and will keep his family in my prayers during this difficult time. RIP Doug.

The Penny
Remember this every time you pass that little penny in the parking lot.
I always thought that it was for Good Luck, but I love this version better:
I found a penny today
Just laying on the ground.
But it's not just a penny,
this little coin I've found.
Found pennies come from heaven,
That's what my Grandpa told me.
He said Angels toss them down.
Oh, how I loved that story.
He said when an Angel misses you,
They toss a penny down.
Sometimes just to cheer you up,
To make a smile out of your frown.
So, don't pass by that penny,
When you're feeling blue.
It may be a penny from heaven,
that an Angel's tossed to you.
An Angel is now watching over you.!

We were even lifeguards together in the summer of 1965 at a local pool.. Doug has always been one of the nicest, most hardworking, and personable people you could want to know. Whenever we ran into each other through the years, we would chat, and he would always ask about my family members (by name), indicating his genuine interest in others. Doug has always been and will continue to be a source of pride for Clinton and Sampson County. I am going to miss that smile. Rest in peace, Doug. "Sue"

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of Judge Parsons. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I had the honor of serving with him in the North Carolina judiciary over the last five years. He was a prince of a fellow whose many kind words and manners made me like him even more every time I was with him. Doug was an able and skilled judge whose knowledge, experience and camaraderie will be greatly missed as well in our judiciary.
