Mr. Roger Hyden “R.H.” Phillips, Jr., 78, of 227 Hamilton Drive, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held Friday afternoon, March 16, 2018 at 2pm at Holly Grove Chrisitan Church with Rev. Ken Eanes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born on February 7, 1940 in Bladen County, R.H. was the son of the late Juanita Marie Register and Roger Hyden Phillips, Sr. He started working in the 60’s for Hudson Auto Sales and was their top mechanic. He was a Class-A Certified Master Diesel Mechanic, having been the night foreman and supervising mechanic at Lundy’s for 19 years, then as the Service Manager for Ford of Clinton for many years, then retired in 2013 after working as the manager and master mechanic of Eastern Service Center for over thirteen years. He was a very active member of Holly Grove Christian Church, where he was an Elder and member of the church choir. He was an avid fan of UNC Tarheels and Nascar driver, Bill Elliott and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a quiet, kind and hardworking man who was respected by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie West Phillips; daughter, Beth Phillips and son, Roger Phillips, both of Clinton; two sisters: Jan Midura and husband, Ron of Cornelius; Linda Metcalf and husband, Ken of Myrtle Beach, SC; two brothers: Michael Phillips and wife, Darlene of Clinton; Gene Phillips and wife, Kim of Wards Corner; a grandson, Timothy Kiger; granddaughter, Megan Batten and husband, Tim; and a great-granddaughter, Hally Renee Butler; and also his furry friend, Lucky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Phillips, a daughter, Rose Box and a sister, Wanda Phillips.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6-8 pm at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel; and other times at their home.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Mary Gran Nursing Center and Sampson Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care shown to RH during his time there.
