Mr. Richard Howard “Ricky” Godwin, 49, of 97 Big Piney Grove Rd. passed away at UNC Hospitals of Chapel Hill on Sunday, June 24, 2018. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening, June 27th at 6:00 pm at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Ammons and Rev. Eddie Hatcher officiating.  Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 11:00 am at the Clinton Cemetery.

Born on July 23, 1968 in Portsmouth, Virginia, Ricky was the son of Leslie and Gladys Edwards Godwin. He worked with Prestage Farms for many years and has worked the last ten years with Hog Slat of Clinton.  He enjoyed fishing and being a jokester with his friends and family.  Throughout school his nickname was “Smiley”.  His smile and laugh was contagious and he never met a stranger. He would do anything for anyone and always there to lend a helping hand.  To know Ricky was to love him.

He is survived by his parents, Leslie and Gladys Godwin of Clinton; his sister, Jennifer G. Hatcher and husband, Eddie of Turkey; two nieces: Ashland Raynor and Nichole Mesimer and husband, Ryan; and one great-niece, Adalynn Mesimer.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home; and other times at the home of his parents at 702 Cutchin Street, Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 408 College St., Clinton, NC  28328.
