Rachel Andrews Cannady Johnson, 87 of 202 Woodland Dr., passed away Sunday, September 16th, 2018 at Southwood Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Ammons officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
Born on July 28th, 1931 in Sampson County, Rachel was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Pheora Rebecca Taylor Andrews. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Love Sunday School Class. She was a retired school teacher, having taught English and Social Studies at Clinton City Schools and Harrells. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading books; however, her greatest joy was spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. She loved cheering on her grandsons at all of their games and was definitely their biggest fan. She was an amazing “Nana”, making all of her grandchildren feel special.
She is survived by husband, Lawrence A. Johnson; her sons: Herman “Stephen” Cannady and wife, Amy of Roxboro and Barney Neal Cannady and wife, Jean Wray of Clinton; stepson, Steve Johnson and wife, Kelly of Clayton; grandsons: Storm & Skyler Cannady; and Cody Johnson; granddaughters: Shannon Smith (Jonathan) and Carolyn deGuzman (Brian); and great-grandchildren: Landon, Jacob, Connor, Mason & Eric Smith and Brandan & Caitlyn deGuzman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Taylor Andrews and her first husband, Herman C. Cannady.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1 pm, in the chapel of the church; and other times at the home of her son, Barney Cannady, 202 Woodland Dr., Clinton.
