CLINTON — Mr. Millard Franklin “Frank” Thornton passed away at his home Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at the age of 83.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Clinton Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gudrun Böhm Thornton; three children, Susan Bristow and husband Boyde, Paul Thornton, Kenneth Thornton and wife Lisa; five grandchildren, Sam Bristow, Matt Bristow and wife Ashley, Josh Thornton, Christina Thornton and Aaron Thornton; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Lucas Bristow; sisters Flo Calloway, Lenettie Qualls and Debbie Hobbs; and one brother, Mike Hinson.
Frank loved his country and served in the United States Air Force for 25 years. He was a Vietnam veteran.
He loved fishing and spending time with his family both here and in Germany. He attended Grove Park Baptist Church and enjoyed reading scripture for his Sunday school class.
In lieu of flowers, his wish was for donations to be made to the Grove Park Baptist Church Children’s Playground, 609 Northeast Blvd., Clinton.
The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery on Thursday and other times at his home, 303 Ridgeway St., Clinton.
The family wishes to thank the Sampson County Emergency Management Services for its quick response and compassion during the family’s time of great need.
