Mr. Larry Charles Scronce, 68, of 1301 Edmond Matthis Rd., passed away at his home on Monday, December 17, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday evening, December 20th at 7:00 pm at Grove Park Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Threatt and Rev. Cameron McGill officiating.
Born on March 10, 1950 in New Hanover County, Larry was son to the late Charles Hugh and Mildred Fryar Scronce. He grew up roaming the roads, hunting the fields of Ivanhoe and Harrells and was a proud graduate of Union High School. He later attended UNC-W where he met the love of his life, Denise West.
Larry worked as Branch Manager for the Clinton office of Campbell Oil Company for 29 years. Prior to joining Campbell Oil, he was a Branch Manager for First Union National Bank in Garland and Clinton. He was also a self-employed hog farmer, and co-owner of Burney’s of Clinton. Over the years he was an active member of Grove Park Baptist Church where he delighted in his service through the deacons, brotherhood and the John Smith Sunday School Class.
Larry was a big man with an even bigger heart and huge passion to serve others. He rarely met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with everyone who crossed his path. He loved spending time with friends around a pig cooker fundraising for people in need, building a ramp or just enjoying a long chat on the phone to just let you know he cared. He enjoyed relaxing with family and friends at White Lake, attending Wolfpack Football games with his tailgating family and spending time watching Charlie, Bekah and Kate on the stage or sports field. But he was most at home in his recliner with a pup in his lap, at his feet or under his constantly petting hand.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Denise Scronce of the home; daughters: Media Hooks and husband, Bryan of Willow Springs; Megan Whichello and husband, Brian of Leland; his grandson, Charlie Hooks and two granddaughters: Bekah and Kate Hooks.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, December 19th from 6-8 pm at Royal-Hall Funeral Home; and other times at his home.
