Mr. Howard Carr Hobbs, 89, of 1782 Old Raleigh Rd., passed away at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill on Monday, April 2, 2018, with his family by his side.
A Funeral Service to honor his life will be held Friday, April 6 at 2:00 pm at Grove Park Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Threatt and Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Entombment will follow at Clinton Cemetery.
Born on January 8, 1929 in Sampson County, Howard was the son of the late Minson and Katie Carr Hobbs. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War and co-owner of Hargrove’s Mens Shop that was located in downtown Clinton. He was a staple of the community, having loved his customers, his friends and especially his church family, where he was a longtime member of Grove Park Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and loved to share his vegetables with his friends. After retirement, Howard loved traveling all over the United States with his wife and friends, especially Florida. He was an honest, kind man who was respected by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Doris Boyette Hobbs; three daughters: Cindy H. Grider of Roseboro, Milly H. Foushee and husband, Jack of Monroe, Georgia, Lydia H. Herring and husband, Gary of Clinton; five grandchildren: Michael Grider, Jenny Foushee Johnson, Lauren Wade West, Jessica Foushee Sinclair and Ben Wade; three step-grandchildren: Gary Mac Herring (Chasity); Dana Herring Harkness (Dave), Carli Herring (Greg McDonald); five great-grandchildren: Skylar Brooke Johnson, Olivia Faith Johnson, Lucas Oliver West, Paul Tillman Sinclair and Finn Leeson Wade; and three step great-grandchildren: Liam Herring, James Grady Herring and Davis Harkness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbert Hobbs.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral in the Church Sanctuary, beginning at 1:00 pm; and other times at his home.
