Elena Sutton Hudson, 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, January 31, 2018 at Mary Gran Nursing Center with her loving family by her side.
A Service to celebrate Mrs. Hudson’s life will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11 am at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. E.C. Mattocks officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memorial Park in Clinton.
Born on December 14, 1919 in Sampson County, Mrs. Hudson was the daughter to the late Raymond and Bertha Mae Best Sutton and widow to Troy Raymond Hudson. She was a retired fashion buyer and clerk for Turlington’s Department Store and Delaney’s Department Store. She was a true Southern lady with a lovely sense of humor. She was very independent and took great pride in taking care of her business and personal needs. She lived a quiet life in her later years, enjoying sewing, cooking, gardening, and planting and caring for flowers. The highlight of her day was visiting with any member of her family, whom she adored. She was devoted to her family and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Mrs. Hudson is survived by four children: son, Raymond Jackie Hudson and wife, Betty of Clinton; Joseph Ted Hudson and wife, Joann of Mooresville; Robert Sutton Hudson and wife, Janice of Newton Grove; a daughter, Dixie Hudson McLamb and husband, Billy of Clinton; two sisters: Belinda Bell of Wilmington and Gail McGill of Burlington; two brothers: Don Sutton of Rocky Mount and Joe Dan Sutton of Hampton, Va.; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. Special friends: Bobby and Mary McNeil and Bobbie Britt all of Clinton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Thelma West, Willie Mae Moore, Carmel Jones; four brothers: Luby Sutton, Leburn Sutton, Forrest “Buck” Sutton, Glenn Sutton; and one granddaughter, Robin Hudson Whitman.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10am, at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the entire staff of Mary Gran for their wonderful care and kindness shown to their mother during her stay there.
