Mr. Douglas Nixon "Doug" Tyner, 75, of 545 Pine Ridge Rd., Clinton, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday evening, August 1st 2017.

 A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, 3790 Faison Hwy, Clinton with Rev. E.C. Mattocks officiating.  Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Born on June 28, 1942 in Sampson County, Douglas was the son of the late Faires Warwick and John Holt Tyner.  He was a farmer all his life and a member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a hard-working man, who loved being on his John-Deere tractor and working outside. He was respected and loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Hope Tyner; two sons: Nickie Tyner & wife, Sherry of Clinton; Gary Tyner & wife, Rhonda of Sanford; one sister, Barbara Hope & husband, Billy of Clinton; a brother-in-law, Tony Jackson of Newton Grove; and a sister-in-law, Marie Tyner Tyndall of Clinton. He was also blessed with five grandchildren: Nicole Rackley (Josh), Jonathan Tyner (Paula), Kesler Tyner, Hayes Tyner, Brock Tyner; and a great-granddaughter, Vanna Claire Rackley and his soon-to-be great-grandson, Eli Jason Tyner.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Armon Holt Tyner and a sister, Hilda Jackson.

Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, beginning at 1pm, and other times at his home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church or to Liberty Hospice by mail to 208 Beaman St., Clinton, NC  28328.

The family would like to give special thanks to Doug’s nurse, Amanda Thornton Wright of Liberty Hospice. He could not have had a more loving and caring person taking care of him.
