Mr. Oscar Lee Matthis, Jr., 85 of 1713 Edmond Matthis Rd. went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 8, 2010.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Ingold Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Salisbury and Rev. Danny Johnson officiating. A graveside service for the family will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 AM in the Clinton Cemetery.

Born on November 10, 1924 in Sampson County, Mr. Matthis was the son of the late Oscar Lee Matthis, Sr. & Sudie Mae Peterson Matthis. He was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a former member of the Board of Deacons, Royal Ambassador Leader and a Junior Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Matthis was a member of the Ingold Baptist Church, former member of the Board of Deacons and assistant Adult Sunday School Teacher. Retired from farming he continued to enjoy his cows, his garden and “Bud” his faithful dog. He was a former employee with Vann Ford after 27 years of service. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annette M. Matthis, son, Steve Matthis and wife Paula of Clinton, sister, Maxine Matthews of Clinton, brother, Luvy Matthis and wife, Wilda of Goldsboro and one granddaughter, Marie Smith & husband, Cooper.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Matthis, Merdice Ezzell and Callie Carr and two brothers, Wilbert Matthis and A. T. Matthis.

The family will receive friends after the funeral at the church and other times at his home.
