Mr. Willie Atkinson Johnson, 86 of 304 Tomahawk Hwy, Harrells, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 with his family by his side.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 7th at 11:00 am at Wells Chapel Baptist Church in Wallace with Rev. Joe Lee, Rev. Ottis King and Rev. Ed Rouse officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in 1930 in Sampson County, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Willie Wooten Johnson and Naomi Eakins Johnson.  He loved his home town of Harrells, and was most content when he was at home.  He served on the town board for 41 years, and served as mayor for a short time and pro tem for many years. He was so happy to see the growth over the years in Harrells, and truly believed it was the best place in the world.  Mr. Johnson was the happiest when he was farming and enjoyed time on the dairy farm when he was younger.  He worked many days in tobacco and out in the field on a tractor. After he retired in 2008 he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family traveling, but always loved coming back home to Harrells.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Geraldine Fussell Johnson of the home; his daughter, Deanna Johnson Raineri & husband Sal of Goldsboro; his two grandchildren: Beth & Casey Raineri; sister, Melva Powell Johnson of Fayetteville; sister-in-law, Faye Johnson of Potters Hill; his niece, Brenda Robertson; nephews, Michael Powell and Ronald Earl Johnson. He was also blessed with many cousins, friends in the community and church family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Earl Johnson.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, from 6-8 pm, at Royal-Hall Funeral Home in Clinton, and other times at his home.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Newton and the staff at Clinton Medical Clinic for their many years of care, as well as to the Emergency Room staff at Sampson Regional Medical Center; a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Community Home Care & Hospice for all their love, care and compassion; and finally, we appreciate all those special friends and family that have been there to help and provide support to us the past few years.

In Lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Community Home Care & Hospice, 216 Beamon St., Clinton, NC  28328 or to Wells Chapel Baptist Church, 2070 Wallace Hwy, Wallace, NC  28466.

Royal-Hall is honored to serve the Johnson Family.
