Edith Jean (Jernigan) Godbold

Mrs. Edith Jean Godbold, 83, of 180 Southwood Drive, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Southwood Nursing Center.  

Born on December 31, 1933 in Wayne County, Mrs. Godbold was the daughter of the late Alex Jernigan and Sallie Capps Jernigan, and widow to Mr. Cleveland H. Godbold, Sr.   She was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church and a retired employee with Clinton City Schools.

She is survived by her son, Jack G. Godbold & wife, Lois of Bladenboro; stepson, Cleveland Godbold, Jr. & wife, Anna of Swansboro; two sisters: Alice Berigtold of Baltimore, Maryland and Margaret “Susie” Williams of Newton Grove; and one brother, Jerry Jernigan of Maryland. She also had three step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: James, Ray, Billy and Ed Jernigan; and three sisters: Lucille Lammers, Ola Mae Bryan and Polly Kennedy.
