Clarence "Ed" Barker

Mr. Clarence Edward “Ed” Barker, 89, of 1325 Harmony Church Road, passed away peacefully at Mary Gran Nursing Home in Clinton on Friday, August 18, 2017.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Barker will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 2pm at Harmony Baptist Church, with the Reverend Danny Powell and the Reverend W.H. Calcutt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in 1928 in Sampson County, Mr. Barker was the son of the late Clarence Davidson and Sallie Pauline Rich Barker. He was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church, where he served as a past Deacon and also on various other church committees.  He was a co-owner of Model Barber Shop in Clinton, where he cut hair for 63 years, until his retirement in 2012. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Rose Parker Barker; two sisters: Elsie Lee Honeycutt and Lillian Britt; and one brother, Alton Barker.

He is survived by two sons: James Edward Barker of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Tommy Barker and wife, Susan of Clinton; one brother, Charles Barker and wife, Edna; one sister-in-law, Wilda Barker, both of Clinton; three grandchildren: Will Barker (Holly); Mackenzie Barker; and Jessica Register (Matthew); and three great-grandchildren: Taylor Grace, Nash and Harrison Register.  He is also survived by a loving group of nieces and nephews, who were all very special to him.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2017 from 6-8:30 pm at Royal-Hall Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund: 1357 Harmony Church Road, Clinton, NC  28328.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Mary Gran Nursing Home, as well as Liberty Hospice and his special caregiver, Shari Parker.
